About

Why “Sacred”?

“The natural world is the larger sacred community to which we belong.”
— Thomas Berry

The cosmos, in all its beauty and splendor, is a divine creation. According to Berry, “The universe is the primary revelation of the divine, the primary scripture, the primary locus of divine-human communion.” The natural world is a sacred world filled with divine Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. It is a world to which we are inherently a part, but from which we have become tragically disconnected. If we view the natural world in all its wildness as the sacred community to which we belong, then we become open to receive divine wisdom and experience divine-human communion which is our great inheritance.

Purpose

To inspire a love of Nature in parents, teachers, children, and youth by nurturing an intimate relationship with the natural world through study, experience, and connection with the land.

A Dream

Generations to come will embrace the natural world as the sacred community to which they inherently belong and so live in loving, harmonious relationship with all of Creation.

About Me…

Hello! I’m Jennifer Taylor—founder, creator, and teacher of The Sacred Wilds. For the purpose of this endeavor, I can best describe myself in terms of my vocational role as a teacher. A role which I regard as a calling to participate in co-creation through the education of children and youth. I hold a Master of Education degree and an undergraduate degree in Biology. With over twenty years of teaching experience, my role as educator is ever evolving as I continue to learn and grow through the spiraling seasons of life. As a licensed teacher, I spent many years teaching in public schools across rural, inner city, and suburban communities. After becoming a mother of three, I discovered the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason. Her knowledge, understanding, and experience of educating the whole child including her emphasis on Nature’s role in child formation convinced me to home educate my children. Since then, I have spent over a decade studying Mason's works and applying her methods for a living, contemplative education in our homeschool. Since 2013, I have served my local homeschool community in support of a Charlotte Mason education in various ways. One of which has been teaching Nature Study to school-aged students and adults alike. In addition to my role here at The Sacred Wilds, I offer homeschool support for Charlotte Mason homeschool families on my sister website A Sacred Education at www.asacrededucation.com. My family and I reside in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Monument, Colorado where trails, mountains, lakes, meadows, and forests are ever beckoning us to be outdoors.

Nature’s Beauty Be Yours,

Jennifer
