<image:caption>Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf How the heart feels a languid grief Laid on it for a covering, And how sleep seems a goodly thing In Autumn at the fall of the leaf? And how the swift beat of the brain Falters because it is in vain, In Autumn at the fall of the leaf Knowest thou not? and how the chief Of joys seems—not to suffer pain? Know'st thou not at the fall of the leaf How the soul feels like a dried sheaf Bound up at length for harvesting, And how death seems a comely thing In Autumn at the fall of the leaf? ~Dante Gabriel Rossetti</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Need for Nature Study - If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last through life, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantment of later years, the sterile preoccupation with things that are artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - The Need for Nature Study</image:title>
<image:caption>Nature-study, as a process, is seeing the things that one looks at, and the drawing of proper conclusions from what one sees. Its purpose is to educate the child in terms of his environment, to the end that his life may be fuller and richer. Nature-study is not the study of a science, as of botany, entomology, geology, and the like. That is, it takes the things at hand and endeavors to understand them, without reference primarily to the systematic order or relationships of objects. It is informal, as are the objects which one sees. It is entirely divorced from mere definitions, or from formal explanations in books. It is therefore supremely natural. It trains the eye and the mind to see and to comprehend the common things of life; and the result is not directly the acquiring of science but the establishing of a living sympathy with everything that is.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - The Need for Nature Study</image:title>
<image:caption>The need for Nature Study is as necessary today as it was over a century ago, if not more. The chasm between humanity and the natural world is creating a grim future for the next generation. The time is now to reclaim the ideals of the Nature Study Movement. For the sake of our children, we must work towards the restoration of relationship with the living Earth through intentional connection with Nature and all its wonders. By including Nature Study as a vital piece of our children’s education we are opening a door that leads to the healing of Creation as a whole.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - About Me…</image:title>
<image:caption>Hello! I’m Jennifer Taylor—founder, creator, and teacher of The Sacred Wilds. For the purpose of this endeavor, I can best describe myself in terms of my vocational role as a teacher. A role which I regard as a calling to participate in co-creation through the education of children and youth. I hold a Master of Education degree and an undergraduate degree in Biology. With over twenty years of teaching experience, my role as educator is ever evolving as I continue to learn and grow through the spiraling seasons of life. As a licensed teacher, I spent many years teaching in public schools across rural, inner city, and suburban communities. After becoming a mother of three, I discovered the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason. Her knowledge, understanding, and experience of educating the whole child including her emphasis on Nature’s role in child formation convinced me to home educate my children. Since then, I have spent over a decade studying Mason's works and applying her methods for a living, contemplative education in our homeschool. Since 2013, I have served my local homeschool community in support of a Charlotte Mason education in various ways. One of which has been teaching Nature Study to school-aged students and adults alike. In addition to my role here at The Sacred Wilds, I offer homeschool support for Charlotte Mason homeschool families on my sister website A Sacred Education at www.asacrededucation.com. My family and I reside in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Monument, Colorado where trails, mountains, lakes, meadows, and forests are ever beckoning us to be outdoors. Nature’s Beauty Be Yours, Jennifer</image:caption>
